Oh I wish I had the camera here while I sit on the deck updating this! After my last post I shared my fear and dislike of birds (because of my childhood chicken traumas). I have to admit I can sometimes find beauty in the avian species - as I just did sitting here enjoying the North Carolina coolness and scenery. A beautiful bright red cardnial landed on the table across from me - then flew up into the nearby magnolia tree. As I worked some more, another cardinal hopped around the deck - got a drink from a puddle etc. Even though this one had grayer feathers, I could tell it was a cardinal by its tuft on the head. Do cardinals start out gray and get their bright red fathers later in life? FYI: I believe the cardinal is the state bird of North Carolina. Anyone know that for sure? How about the state tree? I asked on my walk yesterday and I had my guides stumped. Scott and the girls are mini golfing and have the camera. I'll be on the look out for a cardinal.
Zona, the bright red cardinal is the male(go figure). Ask google about the state tree...
