I remember being so tired and absolutely exhausted seven years ago today. Little did I know that the child I would soon deliver would keep me feeling that way for a long time!
Today we decorated Elyse's birthday cake. She wanted a "chocolate cake shaped like a 7." With chocolate frosting. no sprinkles. just brown frosting. How does my highly imaginative kid come up with such a plain cake?! I guess she knows what will taste best - and give Mom the least amount of trouble. Maybe I should just consider her request to be very thoughtful and considerate.

Carolyn has been begging me to let her try decorating for a long time. I've put it off and put it off and finally decided today would be a good time to try. I do not claim to be an sort of professional cake decorator or cook; I am just fussy in my kitchen. I really need to ease up on that and eventually just let Carolyn take over completely. I think we'd both be happy with that arrangement. Carolyn was very excited to try out the star tip and make different designs. She did a very nice job for her first try. (keep in mind....Elyse picked out the frosting color...)
