I can honestly say I was excited and ready to start the new school. Each beginning is exciting and fresh and new....new haircuts, new backpacks, fresh outfits, excited kids....it was a good week ended with a fun family happy hour and now we are enjoying our first weekend of relaxing. And making mental lists of what we need to do in the upcoming week.
Elyse walked in my classroom after the first day and exclaimed, "BEST DAY EVER!" She is loving her new classroom and new teacher. She whizzed through her first book project and is clipping along at her reading log. She is enjoying spending her time with friends from her class last year and making new ones as well. Elyse rated her first week of school a 9 1/2 out of 10. It would have been a 10 if her table had won lunch with her teacher. They lost by four points and "that just ticks me off." I hope she realizes there are 35 more weeks of school, so 35 more opportunities to have lunch with Ms. Piano.
Carolyn came to my classroom and commented, "I think I just might like fifth grade. Of course, we haven't actually done any work yet...." She has been so pleasant and so happy all week - I had to ask her teachers what they had done with my child! Carolyn will have more project work to accomplish this year and so far she is enjoying her first. She's been cutting out pictures and making a science collage all week. It's a little bit like...dare I say it.... crafting?!??! She ranked her first week 9 out of 10. She isn't quite sure what would have made it a 10. She is excited to finally get to play her horn on Monday.
I finished my first day and said, "Whew! Not bad." I finished my second day and said, "WOAH!" after a few classes. I finished the third day and asked, "How can we get another third grade teacher?" I finished the fourth day and said, "Oh holy hell that's a lot of kindergarteners!" I finished the fifth day and said, "Where's my margarita?!" All in all, it was a fairly smooth week for me. My only wish is to just get my class lists solidified. Once I know who I am supposed to have in class and when it matches who I actually have in class, things go much more smoothly.
