Our neighbors invited us to a Halloween Party at their church last night: games, chili cook off and Trunk or Treating. I've always seen places - mostly churches - advertising this "trunk or treat" stuff and only learned what it actually is last year. A parking lot is blocked off, you open your trunk or hatch of your car and kids walk from car to car and you hand out candy - from the trunk. SLICK! It was a lot of fun - and we served a lot more trick or treaters in that parking lot than we normally would see at our house. So we're off the hook for tomorrow night, right? I was quickly given a resounding "NO!" on that one....So we get to the event and there's a chili cook off. Between three of us, we sampled 6-8 different kinds of chili... when we went back to get more of the one we liked best (#8) it was all gone! I guess other people felt the same way. Really, they should have included a cornbread cook off because there were about as many varieties of that as there was chili. It was all yummy. The girls got to wear their costumes - in case you can't tell, Elyse is a skeleton (yes, I drew that) and Carolyn is a stick person. The girls have always created their own costumes and I am amazed at the ideas they come up with.
