Elyse is adventurous and is always willing to try something new. This fall we found a fencing class through the City of Peoria and she was ready to sign up. She goes to her fencing class every Wednesday - and says the best part is getting to wear her special glove. Scooter usually takes her to her class but I think I might have to go watch her pretty soon just to see her in action.
Part of being a 5th grader is that kids finally get to start playing in band. My mother made every one of us play in band....and some of us still pick up the instrument and play now and then. It was something important she thought we should learn. Elyse chose to play the trombone this year and she spent a weekend practicing very hard so she could play "Hot Cross Buns" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and then move on to bigger and better songs. She's doing really well! She is very fortunate to have an hour after school nearly every day to practice so she rarely has to carry her trombone home. Which is a good thing because watching her carry it is a little like one of those comedy sketches where someone is carrying a long 2x4 and as they turn they knock everything over....maybe you just have to see it.
I am impressed! It takes lots of skill and talent to pull off fencing! Way to go, Elyse!
