Canoe Adventure

So we had so much fun discovering Fool Hollow, we had to go back today. Today we were much better prepared: swimsuits, towels, picnic and a plan. We checked out the canoe rental yesterday and had agreed we had to do that. So we were up and at 'em and on our way to Show Low (I believe that spelling to be correct). We got to the canoe place and decided that we didn't dare bring anything with us - no camera, no phone, no key fob...nothing that would be damaged should we tip over! Can you tell we weren't terribly confident in our canoeing skills?! Scooter and I even made a pact that no matter what, we would stay married and not yell at each other. Well, we had nothing to fear. We did a marvelous job of canoeing...I steered, Scooter navigated and the kids were quickly bored just sitting in the canoe!

We found a place to land the canoe along the lake. Everyone got out and though reluctantly, we all swam around. I discovered (well, this isn't a new discovery about myself - I've always known) that I really prefer my pool over a lake). I do not like not being able to touch bottom and I absolutely hate slimy slippery stuff on my feet. Again, not prepared with proper footwear... Carolyn was wearing my water shoes since she didn't have any, so like any good mother, I sacrificed for my child. When she swam and I wore them, I was much happier. I so wish I'd had the camera - the lake was beautiful. Carolyn wanted to see if she could swim across the lake. So away she went and we paddled along beside her. She is quite a swimmer! We got her reloaded and continued along - as dark clouds were brewing over the water.

Our next discovery was a rock. We'd passed some kids jumping off it earlier so the girls decided they wanted to check it out. We stopped, they got off and we girls jumped in (Scooter had to hold onto the canoe and not let it float away - it worked well) and played around. A couple of local girls stopped by and asked if they could "share our rock". They were so nice - about Carolyn's age - and they had fun diving off (they were impressed with Carolyn's diving) the rock together and swimming back. Alas, the fun was not to last as the dark clouds were now bringing thunder and lightning...so we had to call it a day. Lightning was becoming more frequent so we paddled our aluminum canoe as fast as we could! Thankfully we got back to the landing before it started to rain. We were all disappointed we had to cut our trip short. We will surely do it again.
