We loved this ride for many reasons. The girls would say they loved it just because they got to be on a horse! We all agreed that it felt "authentic" -- we weren't riding trail horses that went nose to tail the whole way. We had some freedoms (and a wide trail?) and great horses that trotted (think Donkey in Shrek, "I'm trotting!") and I even got a little gallop out of Trigger. Our guides (JR is pictured in our group picture) were very clear that these were not trail horses we were riding, but were working horses that do cattle drives and rides all the time. Everyone (horses too) was well behaved and both our guides gave us commentary -when we asked - on the area. We crossed the creek several times - it is quite dry - and got to get splashed a bit while the horses drank or skipped through the water. We didn't see any wildlife - bears, mountain lions or elk. The place where we stopped and took this group picture is where the fencing crew "camps" when they're working. VERY rustic! We rode along the fence line of the ranch and got to admire their fence work. I would not choose to have that job on the ranch.
These are some of our views along our ride...we had amazing views of the mountains, box canyons, meadows...it was beautiful.
