Undy5000

...but I hate cancer even more.
So remember my 4th of July post about my friend, Kelly, wanting to run a 5K in Huntington Beach? We did it - it was fun and I said I would definitely do another one. Well in September or so, Kelly went to a workshop something or other put on by the Colon Cancer Alliance - and talked me into another one.  Kelly's dad is a colon cancer survivor so she has a close connection to this cause.  The presenter started talking about a 5K coming up in November called the Undy5000 where you run in your underwear!  Some of our group of Be Great in Eight! participants thought this would be a great motivator for which to train and then what a great cause to support and run the 5K on November 16.

Kelly really took the reins and got t-shirts and boxers designed and donated. She organized a karaoke fund raiser and really took charge of our team. I just drove 'the team' to the race and ran.  It was a fun race - not a lot of participants (1400 + some dogs) so it wasn't crowded - but I did have to watch my step to not trip over the little dog that was running in front of me.  Not bad -- the other girls were dodging dog poop on the street. It was November so the weather was nice....and the after-race snacks were pretty darn yummy as well. I finished in 30:36 -- three minutes faster than my July 4 run.  I was happy with that. And, yes, I'll do another 5K or two...or three... in 2014.

Normally I don't care to have my backside photographed...
but our little boxers were pretty darn cute.

Remember to get your colon screened at the age of 50.
You may have to do this earlier if you have a family history of colon cancer or colon issues.  Check with your medical professional.
