AKA: The Mielke Family on Vacation. We're not having nearly the adventures Papa Bear and Brother Bear have in that book...because our Papa Bear knows the rules of safety at the beach.
We settled into the Marriott last night - in the dark...exhausted after a late night, busy day of work, long drive and overall lack of sleep. I chuckled to myself just now as I met a lady on the sidewalk with a map in her hand wondering if she was in the right spot...that was totally us 24 hours ago! I assured her it is much easier to find her way around in the daylight.
We all had a good sleep and were up early this morning...I was off to the grocery store by 7 a.m. and off to a resort walk by 8. I learned a lot about the area. We've never stayed up here before. After lunch we headed to the Laguna Beach area...walked down on the beach while the tide was out. It was all fun and games until Elyse's flip flops got too slippery and she was hating the beach, hating the tide pools and screaming like a fool every time she fell. That warranted a shopping trip to find her some strap on sandals! Elyse will make no secret about her dislike for the beach. She does, however, love to climb so maybe tomorrow will be a better day with her new shoes. She is BEAT tonight and ready for bed after a morning swim, daytime hike at the beach, evening hot tub and that just wears a little girl out! Lesson learned: Mom needs to check the suitcase before it is zipped shut.
