January 3 - The Strip at Night

We stayed close to home today and relaxed. I have read two books and am ready to begin a third! The girls hung out in the swimming pool and Scooter and I relaxed with our books. Tonight we convinced the girls to go on The Strip to see the bright lights of Las Vegas. We happened to catch a red light in front of Bellagio so we saw the fountains in action (Lee Greenwood’s God Bless The USA). We got to Treasure Island just as the show was beginning and then waited in front of The Mirage for the volcano. The Venetian had a nice laser show and music to enjoy while we waited. After that excitement, we drove to Bellagio. They were already taking down their Christmas décor (I’ve said many times how nice everything looks with the Christmas stuff still up) so parking was a bit tricky. We quickly headed out to the fountains (after playing in the revolving door for just a bit) and got to see the show in its entire splendor. It really was impressive – even if it meant enduring Celine Dion’s Love Theme from Titanic. The second show was better with Aaron Copland’s Rodeo. We had a great view of Paris from our perch and took lots of pictures before heading home.

FIRST STOP: Treasure Island. Well...maybe should re-think that if you have kids! Scott's comment was, "They've sure sexed that up!" and Elyse said, "Not really appropriate for kids." We moved on. But I may have picked up a few new moves....

SECOND STOP: The Mirage. We had to stand around for quite awhile waiting for the show...so we did what every good tourist would do: we took pictures. and people watched. One lady walked by proclaming that she had a restraining order against Scott.

THIRD STOP: Bellagio. By far the best sight of the night. Elyse wants to go to Paris in a big way....so far this is as close as we've gotten. I just realized we never went in to Paris. Guess we have to go back to Las Vegas!
