We spent today at Petrified National Park and Painted Desert. These are two Arizona sights I have wanted to see - so I could check them off the National Park list and say I've been to a sight in Arizona. I spent the better part of the day wondering to myself, "When will my kids be the right age to really enjoy this and not whine or complain when we get out of the car to explore?!" One time when they complained I finally said, "I want to get out and explore. This will most likely be the only time I visit this place, so I'd like to get out and see all I can see and do all I can do. If you'd like to come back another time and do as you'd like, go ahead. But right now, this car is stopping and I am getting out to explore." That went over well.
I can't say I will rush right back to see the Petrified Forest or the Painted Desert. The Painted Desert was pretty - but really - I think the Badlands of ND are prettier. Really, they're all just "badlands". I prefer a bit more green and some occassional water....but we can say we've been there, done that, did not buy a t-shirt.
Girls are all smiles at the beginning of today's adventure. |
Carolyn found a log that was too big for her to get her arms around. |
This log was almost as tall as Elyse! Elyse is 4'8". |
