For a couple of years, Carolyn has wanted to do Swim Team in the summer. I've always been teaching summer school during the season so I haven't been able to get her to practices. Well this year we jumped in and made it work: After meeting the time requirements, Carolyn is a member of the Peoria Piranhas. Tonight was their first meet, facing the Centennial Sting Rays. It was quite a learning experience for us all. Things we learned: 1. we don't have to get there as early 2. parking and seating will be much easier if we arrive later and avoid the under ten parents and swimmers. 3. we need to eat something before the meet. 4. we need to pack snacks. 5. It is really quite nice at the pool after 7:00 p.m.
Carolyn started out nervous before the meet but settled in once she did her warm ups. She raced the 50 yard free-style, the 50 yard backstroke and the 4x50 free-style relay. They give ribbons/places for every heat and we were proud she placed right in the middle of the first heat: 4th out of 8 in both races; the relay placed second.
