Sewing Girls

So remember all my quilting posts? And the quilts I made with my very talented sister, Gert?  Now I have this new found confidence and am so excited that I can sort of sew a straight line...well, not always straight.... so upon my return from Tucson I went in search of a sewing machine. First stop:  craigslist.  I found one on there and the lady selling it had a website describing the different machines she had.  After checkig it out, I called her (Anne) and explained my abilities (took about 3 seconds: "I can sort of sew a straight stitch and that's really all I need to be able to do.") and what I was looking for. She had something and could I come out to Surprise the next day.  I did and after taking a couple machines for a "test drive", Anne talked me through threading it, and how to wind a bobbin. I happily came home with a simple little machine that did everything I needed it to do:  work.

The girls were pretty excited too and I showed them how to sew. Pretty simple really:  just put two pieces of material together and try to sew a straight line. Like their mom, that proved to be the tough part.  But they enjoyed it. Carolyn says the foot pedal is hard for her...is that a precursor to driving?!  Carolyn and I pieced out a quilt for her and I sewed it up last night. I guess I'm not quite ready to turn it over to her. Maybe we'll start with potholders or a pillow case.

Carolyn is all smiles...so far it's fun.

Elyse is so proud of herself!

Both girls concentrate on trying to go straight.
Is Elyse's tongue hanging out?
