When Scooter and I were first married and discussed starting a family, I said I wanted to have four kids. Coming from a big family, it only seemed right that I would have a 'big' family. Then I had Carolyn and thought 'three kids would be alright'. Then I had Elyse....and well, I knew I was done having babies. You've all heard/read the story of our acquisition of Coco and later of Annie...the other day when I was on the lake looking at the dock, I realized I do have four children: Carolyn, Elyse, Coco and Annie. Yes, we do look at our dogs as part of the family - no, we won't take them to Disneyland or anything like that -but they are a part of our family and we are glad they are potty trained and sleep through the night without disturbing us. Sadly, however, it is like having a perpetual toddler in the house - two toddlers. And they won't ever move out. Oh well, we love them anyway and enjoy watching their antics and discoveries as much we did our own species babies.
Coco is a chocolate lab but does not go in our pool ever. We don't know what Annie is, but she doesn't go in the pool either - she just runs around and around it. Last year we came to the lake and discovered that Coco likes to walk into the water - not jump, so she likes the lake. Thankfully a few ducks happened to come along and provided her something to chase.
At first neither of the dogs were sure of what they should do - and how would they ever get off that dock? |
Carolyn enjoyed swimming with Coco as much as Coco enjoyed swimming with Carolyn. |
We were packing up to leave and Coco sat looking longingly at the lake. She was hoping for more ducks to come along. |
