My mother loved crossword puzzles. She was really good at them - she even did them in pen! When I was visiting her last spring, I took the Monday paper (knowing that Monday's puzzle is the easiest of the week) and thought, "I am going to try this." I worked at it and finally had to ask for her help on a few clues. It amazed me that I could read her the most obscure clue and she knew the answer - and how to spell it correctly - every time. I admitted to her that I had cheated on a few of them already by using Google. That got an eye roll.
So this week I read my Monday paper, thought of Mother, and started the puzzle. I used a pen - and got this far - but I'm not too sure I have 69 across correct:
Mother might have owned the crossword puzzle section of the paper - and the cryptogram - but I could beat her easily at Soduko. And maybe the Jumble. But only until Thursday. So whenever I see a crossword puzzle, I think of my mom and smile.
