My mom introduced my sister, Gert, to The Road Kill Café in Sheyenne, ND. Now, Sheyenne is a very small ND town - I can't begin to estimate the population, but let's say it's well under 500 people. Well, I have heard of The Road Kill Café but had never been there, so in Mother's memory, those of us that were still at home loaded it up and headed there for lunch.
The back of the building that houses The Road Kill Café is a taxidermy shop. The front of the building is a 'restaurant'. To my understanding, it is run by a team of five local women who wanted to serve their community by providing simple, yummy, home cooked meals. The menu that day consisted of Tomato Florentine (not a favorite among us) or Broccoli Cheese Soup (definitely a favorite) and turkey sandwiches. OH! And rhubarb something or other for dessert. Can't go wrong with rhubarb - another ND delicacy! It was wonderful - and the taxidermy was pretty darn cool too.
