At the end of each quarter, someone at our school hosts an "Honor Roll Breakfast" - it might be the STEM kids, it might be PTA...it's kind of hit and miss and hopefully someone remembers to do it! Well, the third quarter one was fairly lame, according to my honor roll students. I try to get them to appreciate the recognition and the kind gesuture and not focus on the reward itself...but you know how kids are. And well, cafeteria twinkies and juice just didn't feel very celebratory! SO since we're out of school when the 4th quarter Honor Roll is announced, I told the girls that if they get a 4.0 GPA, I would take them out to breakfast of their choice (well, it was really going to be my choice if I was buying...).
Progress Reports came out mid-April and Elyse had some work to do if she was going to maintain her yearlong streak of having a 4.0. Actually, so did Carolyn. Both girls worked really hard in the final weeks of school - not an easy task - and I was so proud of them both. Elyse worked long and hard and cried several tears on a math project - but in the end it paid off and she earned enough extra credit to put her over the edge and earn that coveted A. We are very proud of both our girls and the efforts they put into their studies. Scooter and I have said many times how fortunate we are to have the girls we do and that studies come fairly easy to them... that they usually enjoy going to school and that getting them there isn't a struggle. We know that not every parent enjoys this luxury.
We agreed that Sunday would be Honor Roll Breakfast day. Even though Elyse really wanted to go to IHOP, she agreed that the pancakes at the Peoria Cafe are nearly as good as those at IHOP. Scooter and I thought the omelettes were wonderful and we had enough hashbrowns leftover to feed another family.
