Swim Finals

The week of Elyse's birthday was incredibly busy.  We'd just returned from The Homeland, we had dinner at Golden Corral, Carolyn got braces, Elyse's actual birthday happened, Carolyn had Swim Finals and she 'qualified' for Swim Championships....then she had a volleyball game and Elyse's party.  Whew!

Carolyn had a very busy summer, if you recall.  She did Police Academy, Swim Team, PCC, Leadership Camp, PCC Tour to Oregon, then to the Homeland...and when we finally returned, it was time for Swim Finals. Carolyn hadn't been in a pool for over two weeks and it was time for finals.  She swam three races:  freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. We braved the heat and sweated through the meet cheering her (and Alyssa) on in each of their races.  Both girls did great and posted good times - and hey, who doesn't love getting  a medal?! The top eight times continue on to the Swim CHAMPIONSHIPS which were held on Saturday morning.  Since Carolyn hadn't trained or even been in a pool for so long, we really weren't expecting much beyond Thursday's Swim FINALS.  So imagine my surprise when I learned that the top TEN swimmers were to appear at the meet on Saturday just in case...and Carolyn was number NINE in the backstroke.  We were elated - but didn't know if she'd even get to swim. If all eight swimmers showed up, she wouldn't swim - but we were there - in Surprise - at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning.  And she didn't swim.

But the swim season was a lot of fun and we're glad Alyssa had fun too.  Any sport is more fun with a friend, right? I hope both girls plan to swim again next summer as well as Elyse doing dive.
