Mielke Family Fun: Happy Birthday, Mother

My mom's birthday was April 2 and she always enjoyed celebrating it. There was a sort of 'club' in New Rockford that would get together and celebrate their birthdays on April 2...it was exclusive and they had a very fun time celebrating.

My mom was a woman of many talents. My sister, Beth, sent a note on April 2 to us asking what we were doing in Mother's memory today....suggestions were: to sing really loud, do a crossword puzzle in pen (I am not good at crosswords - I've tried...), play piano, rinse and re-use those Ziploc bags (my mom was a recycler way before it was cool)...of course, I suggested eating her favorite foods. We all have different talents, right?!

One of my mom's favorite foods was angel food cake. I don't know if she liked it with strawberries and whipped cream, but I do, so that's how I served it. She also liked fried chicken. I was missing her and was thinking of her on her birthday, so to celebrate her first birthday in heaven, we enjoyed chicken for dinner and angel food cake for dessert. And wine. She would have enjoyed that too. I'll leave the crosswords to Roger.
